My store collection turns over constantly as I discover treasure at online auctions. I specialize in the most coveted French dolls from the Golden Age of dollmaking, including Bru, Jumeau, Huret, and Francois Gaultier.
I use my education and career as a civil engineer/tech manager and my interest in drawing and painting to restore dolls and preserve them for another generation. Some collectors shy away from imperfect dolls, but I love bringing them back to life.
I’ve learned how to reassemble the smashed pieces of precious Bru dolls, and how to repair the workings of a “talking” doll. I’ve taught myself the best materials to create seamless repairs and have worked with experts in the doll repair field like (X) to learn more tricks of the trade.
To re-create the fragile costumes, I’ve learned to draft patterns and occasionally go on obscure obsessions, like finding the machine that makes the distinctive trim on the edge of French doll shoes (stay tuned on that one!). If you visited my basement workroom, you’d find a wall of drawers and bins containing my “stash” of fabrics, trims, buttons…on and on.
Doll wigs are another focus. Many antique dolls have sparse or missing wigs, or (horrors!) synthetic wigs. I make custom wigs for my dolls-or yours-using natural mohair and curly lamb skins.
